Default Are some sites better at honing?

I'm considering purchasing my first straight razor from an online vendor, and the best package I've found is on Vintage Blades LLC and they of course ofter honing. Have you guys discovered one site is better at honing than another? I'm also conscidering purchasing from ClassingShaving.com or StraightRazorDesigns.

Who does the best pre-sharpening? Or should I forgo that and send it to Lynn?

Also, I've read that with a Carbon Steel blade, after I shave with it, I should oil it to keep it from rusting... can that oil be found in brick and mortor stores? Or is there a site that sells specific straight razor blade oil?

--Thanks everyone for their answers. Lynn has confirmed he hones for all three sites, so I will get a Lynn honed razor in any way I go.--

I don't know about VintageBlades, but the straightrazordesigns razors are honed by Lynn (as he is one of the owners), as are the ones by ClassicShaving. Though I have heard that classic now has a second person also doing honing for them.

So if you buy from SRD, it will be honed by Lynn, if you buy from classic it may be honed by Lynn, and for VintageBlades I don't know.

If you really want Lynn to hone it, either email the seller that you really want Lynn to hone it, or have it shipped to Lynn and handle the honing with Lynn directly.
You could also PM Lynn to ask him about it.

i think Don also hones for straightrazordesigns, but may be he can confirm.
the only way to know for sure is to just ask the vendor.

i cannot comment on the quality of the honing, and I suspect mostly anybody can't. to do so meaningfully would require that one purchases the same several razors from different vendors and compare them, and I don't know anybody who would do that.

if i were you, i would not worry about this at all. just pick one and in the almost negligible chance that your razor isn't well honed, i believe any vendor will take it back and fix it.
