Default First time using Straight razor

I just got my first straight razor in the mail today and shaved with it. I ordered a Ustura Disposable razor and it came with 300 derby single edge razors. I got the closest shave ever out of it, but I nicked myself more than a couple of times. The razor did not pass the hanging hair test. I had to actually apply a bit of force to cut the hair with it. I should have probably used another razor right? Anyways, I was wondering if you have any tips for me to stop the nicking.

It's gonna ultimately come down to practice. The more you use it, the better your technique will get.

With a DE blade, you've really got to maintain the angle, and don't let the blade flex )that'll induce nicks & cuts). Keep the pressure light too; remember it's about beard reduction instead of all out BBS in a single stroke.

    HTH -- good luck!
