I personally have tried many types of soaps and creams and the winner, hands down , are the products at the Gentlemans Refinery. The pre-shave oil is excellent and both of the shave creams, Black Ice and the regular blend are great. These products are really good as they are all natural.( They also have a non-scented verson also) These products are availiable from Jim Ayars over at Vintage Blades and Gentlemans Refinery also has their own website: Get-Gorgeous Green Beauty - Natural & Organic Beauty Products - Upurea.com Phone # 1-877-2-UPUREA. U might try these they should help:

Thanks for all of the help everyone! This forum is amazingly active.

Well first thing I'm going to try is another shave tomorrow with the same setup. Putting a bit more time into my stropping (I'll try 80 like was suggested) and working with my lather more.

I also ordered some soap from the gentleman's refinery which was uber-expensive but highly recommended. I checked out moma bear, but her website confused me too much

I'll try again tommor and return my results. Again thanks for all of the suggestions!

As you have a tough beard try using a shave oil ,something like The King of Shaves range . Use it as prep when you wash your face before applying the Lather use it with plenty of water. This will soften your beard quite a bit& should help the razor to give you a better shaving experience.
I have one of Tony Millers Vegan strops & I am having trouble to get good results with my Hollow ground blades. But it is fine with my half hollows & wedges. This may be down to my own technique but the hollows seem to respond better to my horsehide strop.Just my own experience. The heavier draw of the Vegan strop is something I've yet to get used to. Hope this helps Paul
