    Default Hello Gentlemen

    Messieurs,

My name is Norbert, and I am a 26 year-old French.

Recently, I got an interest about straight razor, and read a lot of websites and books about it, and I am decided to do it!

So, now, I am looking for my first razor, that I hope, will be my friend for a long lon time.
To find it, I searched on a web site called "Classic Shaving". I guess you might now it. I did so, because they have pre-sharpened razor, or they can sharpened for you before shipping, at least.

Anyway, I was looking for the different offers, and I have to admit that it is hard to decide. Not because of the price (even if it is expensive) but for the large choice. And I find a couple of pre-sharpened straight razor that contain a razor, a badge, a brush stand, a linen and leather hanging strop, a mug with a soap (you can choose between 12 differents soaps), and even a CD (or a DVD?) about the art of straight razor.

Sets' prices are between 200 and 300$, which is very afordable, and it is more in €.
So my question is, as this site seems to be a serious one, should I start with one of those sets?
Do you think it will be ok?

I am really impatient to start, so I am really looking forward for your answer.

    Best regards,

    Norbert

    Cher Norbert,

That said: Classic Shaving has "une réputation impeccable" and with the low dollar, one can buy things there at cosiderably lower cost than in Europe, on the one condition that you can avoid import taxes. I don't know about your homecountry, but there are also a few very well respected stores in Germany, that sell nothing but top quality razors. One of the best: Home of the english site of Rasurpur.de

You are right in assuming that you need a skillfully honed razor for learning to shave. There's a high probability that you'll start learning how to hone your own razors after some time. There are many fine gentlemen present on SRP that take pride in guiding people along that path.
In the mean time, if you need someone to sharpen your razor, I'm in Belgium and willing to help you out on that one. Just drop me a PM if needed.

    Chaleureusement,
    Bart.
