    Default Finally the First

Finally did my first straight razor shave. Overall, a very positive experience. As per Lynn's recommendation I shaved just from my sideburns to my jaw, with a little cheek too. And only WTG. No, it wasn't BBS. But I wasn't expecting that from my first shave. Only one little nick that had stopped bleeding before I finished with my Merkur twin safety. Obviously I have a lot of room to improve the angles. I did use both hands without much difference. I am used to that using my safety. The hold also needs improvement. But I am happy with the intial results! No missing body parts or major cuts.

    Congratulations!
Glad it went well. Very restrained of you not to do the whole face. I just couldn't stop with my first go!

Thanks, Ben. I was sorely tempted buit figured it would end sorely too if I had. I waited until I had a day off to do it the first time. Glad I did!

My first two weeks straight razor shaving I did all but my chin and mustache with the straight and then finished with my Merkur slant. It took awhile to get comfortable with manipulating the blade. I also didn't have razors that were quite shave ready. If your experience is like mine you will find that before you know it you will be shaving your whole face & neck with the straight and the DE will be sitting in the cabinet. BTW, I do get better shaves with the straight then my best shaves with the DE.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That was a good idea that Lynn had. I hadn't spoken to Lynn before hacking my face for the first time. But that was a long time ago. This is one thing were the expression slow and steady wins the race really applys. Enjoy and keep up the good work.
