    Default Razor Oil

    Greetings,

I am somewhat new to the razor seen other than watching Gramps shave with his straight razor and also myself. But as far as a little oil on the blade. How often and is there any problem at all with using a dab of WD40?

Most people around here use either mineral oil or camella.

I think that there are chemicals in WD-40 that will irritate your skin. I would use something made for the purpose like Sterol.

Yea, stay away from oils that don't go good with your skin in case you get some on. Tuffglide, sterol, mineral oil are all good and there are a bunch of others.

Well, you can drink olive oil. For that reason, I use that, dissolved in isopropanol, on my razors because I know for sure that it is safe for my skin.

I'll address the 'how often part' - depends on your environment. If it's dry you probably don't need it at all, except if you'll be storing your razor long term. If it's very humid/salty and steel is prone to rust, I guess you can do it after every shave once the razor dries up.
