Default How long does it take you to shave?

Just curious how long it takes the average experienced shaver to shave?

I'm now 6 shaves in and find that I'm getting a bit faster but it still took me a half hour to do a WTG/XTG shave last night. My first shave a few weeks back took a full hour!

Not that shaving is really about speed for me - more important is the quality and enjoyment of the shave. I just wonder how much faster I will get at it as I move up the learning curve

depends on how thorough I am. a full 3.5 pass shave, for me, takes about 25 minutes, including clean up and everything.

eta: been shaving with a straight for almost a year now.

I'm not an experienced str8 shaver at all---in fact I'm at almost the exact same place you are, 7 shaves under my belt. My first shave took an hour. My fastest shave since then took 25 minutes. On average, I probably take between 30 and 35 minutes. I, too, am hoping to improve my speed a bit, so that it doesn't take me quite so long to get ready in the morning. I'd be thrilled if I could do it in under 20 minutes.

As you say, though, it's certainly not all about speed; it's about quality. If you want speed, get an electric, right?!

Good question. I've been meaning to ask this myself.

Payne, I'm assuming you have completed 7 shaves not done 7 shaves "under the belt"! Sorry but that saying has a different meaning here. If it is 7 "under the belt" then kudos to you.

It takes me about an hour to do my legs, start to the end of clean up.

45 minutes from walking into the bathroom to leaving it somewhat the way I found it if I'm doing a full 3 pass BBS shave.

By the responses so far it sounds like Im doing just fine. I think 20 minutes for 2 pass shave would be the limit for me - any faster and Im sure Id cut myself. Still not trying the ATG pass. My skin is very sensitive and that would most certainly be razor burn city

Anyway, Im able to get a very close shave with just 2 passes so ATG seems unnecessary.

Silver. Well of course I mean "under the belt." Isn't that where all men shave? The wife likes it that way. I actually have a full-grown beard on my face.

Seriously, thanks for the note. I got a good laugh. I'll be more careful with my idioms next time.

Actually, I did shave one time below the belt---in preparation for my vasectomy. I used a spike point 8/8 for that job. Joking! I could never do that to a str8. I used some cheap plastic-handled disposable.

Okay. I think I've said enough for now. Moving on . . .

I'm not the kind of person to post a SOTD entry. I shave to get the stuff off my face, and I prefer doing it with straights, but I don't allow it to take a major dent out of my life schedule. From the time I turn on the water in the sink to the time I put the razor away is 7 to 8 minutes.

I've been str8 shaving for a little over a month now. What I have found is that as one part gets easier, I start to work on something new and so on. For example, the cheeks were pretty easy from the beginning so they got the WTG and the chin, neck, and upper lip were sketchy so I would clean up with the safety. After a few shaves, I was getting around the chin and neck easier with WTG passes and started XTG on the cheeks and no more safety clean up! Now I am getting ATG on the cheeks, XTG on the chin and mustache, and I am sorting out ATG on the neck which after the first couple of shaves I thought I may never get to. So just keep at it and as soon as one area gets easy and or BBS start focusing on how to improve the next tricky spot and before you know it your whole face will be BBS, I'm almost there!

To answer the original question, 25-45 minutes. Sometimes I will tell myself not to take so long and just go for an over all WTG but that almost always turns into two or three passes and trying something new. I am having to much fun shaving, I never thought I would say that!

    Happy shaving
