Default Why do I use a cut throat? They fix hangovers

I must admit I have found it extremely interesting - this forum - mainly because I did not know it existed and up until now there was only one other bloke I know that uses a razor.

Inevitably when people do find out I use a cut throat [this I think is pretty much an Australian expression] their initial reaction is ' Your bloody mad'

But as mentioned on earlier threads I have been using one a long time, and using a razor I guess was regarded as quirky and it does make you a little different. I think there is somthing kinda nice about being able to use a fairly basic instrument and achieving a good result, but I have always had a bit of a fascination with handtools, and really to me a razor falls into that category.

Now one other thing a razor does is fix hangovers. I can tell you if you wake up in the morning after a big night on the grog, there is nothing quize like a shave with a razor to focus your attention and get you set up for the day, particualry if you've got a touch of the shakes. It can take some degree on concentration.

The other time that needs concentration is when you are on a small boat. Moments of unusual interst - you might say

In looking forward I don't how long one can continue to use a razor, for as you get older and skin starts to sag - having lost the blush of youth many decades ago - you do have to get a bit more creative in getting skin taut in order to shave.

The biggest dilema that faces us oldies, is what happens when/if you get Parkinsons Disease. I don't think the shredded beetroot look would be a good thing.

Ah well, will cross that bridge when I come to it

    Regards to all

fortunately for me i am an oddball but i have converted 3 of my nephews o straight shaving and one guy i work with. my oldest daughter uses a 5/8 RP to shave her legs as far as i care to know, the PBH also uses a straight but my favorite 8/8 marshes and shepherd... cause she likes the weight of it

When people find out I use one they are like your friends " wow that is dangerous and how do you keep form slitting your throat?" my normal response is you focus on the edge and where it is at all times and the shaves are great. On the days i cannot do that or think about slitting my throat... those days a set the razor down, wipe the lather from my face and venture out with a little stubble."

when i get to old to shave myself... they should just put me down.
    Be just and fear not.
