    Default Safety Razor Advice

I know that this is straight razor place and I am not giving up on straight razors at all. But I would like to get a saftey razor to kind of touch up after using my straight, that is until I get better with it. So does anyone have any suggestions on what safety razor to get? Thank You

I might move this to the DE section later. I like the Merkur long handled classic, myself. The length of the handle reminds me of the delicate touch that works best with a straight. They both have a similar . . . elegance.

I shaved for decades with a Gillette Fatboy, slim adjustable, or SS (Super Speed). The Super Speed is probably the "gentlest" of the bunch. You'd have to get one used, probably.

Whether I shave with a str8 or a DE, if I want to do ATG I'll pick up either the Merkur Slant with a sharp blade (Feather or Treet Blue or Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp) OR a Schick injector with a cut-off Feather AC pro blade. Works for me.

Merkur HD with Derby blades. I don't recommend Feather blades while learning because of sharpness, but they do a great job.

My go to DE is a #58, but I very much enjoy the adjustability of the Slim and the smoothness of the black handled Gilette Long. I would recommend Lord or Greek BIC blades for a start and then to switch to Derbies.

I have settled on Schick injectors if I want to use a safety razor. I have had a bunch of DEs and have found them to work just fine, but I get my best results from an injector (either an M series adjustable or one of the old bakelite /plastic handled ones). I like to use either Schick blades or cut down Feather AC blades, although Don tells me that the Ted Pella blades really work well. Unfortunately, I haven't tried those yet.

I have a Merkur 1904 open that works well with red IPs or derbys.

I use a Merkur Heavy Duty for shaving my head every morning. It seems to work well.
