    Default My first razor

    Hello all,
I am in the process of putting my straight razor kit together. I have been doing quite a bit of online research and have really been enjoying that part of the process. I now have my mug, soap, badger brush, a strop on the way, and two cheapo carbon steel razors. I got a little anxious on the razor purchase, two new blades for 14.95 advertised shave ready, well they weren't. With all of my research to that point, I knew better and was mad at myself at first, but now i figure those will be great to practice my honing skills with. I have found a few sellers on ebay who are selling shave ready razors. They seem to advertise how they hone and that they are shave tested and that sort of thing. The sellers I am watching also have 100% feedback which also leads me to believe they are selling just what they advertise. Most of these razors are going from 30 up to 200 or 300 dollars. I have also been looking at new DOVO razors and am willing to spend up to 75 on my first shaver. My question is would it be better to spend that on a vintage razor from a trusted ebay seller or just go for the new DOVO? The three blades I am watching on ebay right now are all German, all have a mirror finish, are in near mint condition, and are advertised shave ready.

Please chime in with your opinions!

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi!

You will definitely receive differing opinions on this.

My preference is vintage. They typically cost less, shave just as well, and hold an edge as well as new blades. Also, many of the members here know or have purchased from the good eBay sellers. Post up their screen name (or search for it) and you might get some answers!

    Good luck!

    Thanks Chris,
I am watching three right now from altima55, I also have philoritx and dom 1971 on my favorite sellers list. These guys seem to always have quality stuff and seem to to be honest and knowledgeable.

Buy a shave-ready razor from a trusted SRP member in the B/S/T - can't go wrong
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

I KNOW that altima55 is trustworthy. I've not heard much about the other two, but I'm sure others have.

As hoglahoo noted, you cannot go wrong with our B/S/T.
