Thread: New Tony Miller Heirloom Latigo Question

Hi,

Just bought a new Latigo from Tony Miller. The strop has two separate straps, one canvas and one leather.

So here is a silly question which side of each strap does one use? Let me describe each.

Leather

One side is smooth with embossed logo (guessing this the correct side) the other side is more grainy and almost sued like.

Canvas or cotton

One side is a bit rougher with black stitching down either edge 1/4" in from the border. This side is prominent griping both D rings and turning it over from leather to canvas. I am guessing this the correct side to use however teh other side of the canvas without black stitching seems smoother so not sure here.

Tony assembles his strops as they are to be used! In other words, the surfaces that are facing outwards would be the business sides of the strop!

Use the smoothest side of each.

If you are a newb, like me, then I hope you got a practice strop as well.

I recently got the 3" Artisan and a practice strop and boy oh boy I'm pleased I did.

I have already manage 2 small nicks in the practice strop, and I was trying to be so careful.

I'm holding off going anywhere near the good strop for at least a month.

Already Knicked it once. Very small though close to the buckle. I had a feeling as I was going along what if I turned the razor in the wrong direction and sure enough I did. Lucky I wasn't applying any pressure otherwise I would of seriously dug in. I bought the strop at Vintage Blades and didnt see a practice strop for purchase option. You should be using the sides that are facing out.
