Red face noob dude tries to hone

Good news. Got my first razor into close to tip-top (for me anways) shape. Did the circles on the Norton 220/1000 till a new bevel had been created and then did the basic honing pyramid as outlined in Lynn's DVD (I wrote out the scheme). I used the stone holder I got for free that came with the Nortons (and a nagura stone too but haven't used that). I got a very nice polish on the bevel throughout almost all of the blade except for the last third of an inch on the toe, even though it's a square-point it seems to have just a teeny upswing which has preserved it, though the edge-line is very straight it is obviously not polished well at all. This probably must be because the one way I didn't follow the video was the X-pattern, I did straight across. But the rest of the blade looks gorgeous. I'll put it through an X-pattern full pyramid and see if that works. I just hate the last part of the pushing stroke X-pattern, I feel I'm risking hurting the middle of the blade if I drop the blade where I'm holding it on the push, the pull for me seems very clean and comfortable.

    Hey Axel,

I recall using the Spydercos on your razor -- I imagine I did 20-30 on the Ultra-Fine polishing stone. For my tough beard I continue to use this regimen for finishing, or I will occasionally go to the small Escher for 30 strokes.
