Thread: New Member, need expert opinion.

Hello. I've wanted to get into straight razor shaving for a while. Using disposables is emptying out my wallet and they don't shave very well. So I'd like to pick myself up a straight razor. However as I looked around for info and about a razor I'd like, I stumbled upon the Clauss USMC razors. I found these fascinating. I'd knock out two things, my love for the Marine Corps and a straight razor in a single blow. However these are rather old razors, circa the 1st World War. Would it still be usable?

What are your opinions of it? Is it better for me to get a starter kit somewere, learn how to shave and bide my time till the next one shows, or purchase this one, have it honed and buy the necessary strops and brushes?

Pictures aren't great. If would have to be honed. That's if it doesn't have any bad damage. Honing will cost you at least $20. You'd be better off buying something shave ready on here. Hope that helps.

These are absolutly fantastic shavers when honed up properly...
I gifted one to a friend of mine, a Marine vet, and he loves the shave, and the fact that it is stamped "USMC"
Can't go wrong here if the price is right....

It just so happens that I purchased one of those today but it needs a little TLC and some light grinding (chip on the toe of the blade). The pics are blurry so it is very difficult to tell just how much work that razor will need. The Clauss brand has a good reputation. If it stays under $20 it might be worth the chance but be ready to be disappointed. It does happen.
