Good way to start out....you'll find a plethora of soaps/creams/brushes/mugs/razors out there! That Dovo will serve you quite well. I have several different Dovo's myself and enjoy the way they all shave!

Congrats. Will your girlfriend buy us some stuff too?

El, I just ordered the Original Dominica plus St. Lucia (which they are billing as "new" and Citricol and St. Lucia Lime Aftershave.
Oh crap! What the hell is wrong with me? I haven't used any aftershave in twenty years now, in the past seven days I have dropped two c-notes on six bottles of smelly stuff.

I'm araid I messed up my new razor. I took it to my new stones and stropped it but when I shaved with it it was awful. It was just tearing the hair out of my skin. I cut my lip and had some burn. Inever had this trouble with my old razor. However, I really didn't like the feeling of the razor on the stone. I believe my problem is that I was used to a much wider razor. The 5/8 Dovo feels awkward while I hone it. I think I will conact a honemeister and get it done right. I know this isa minor issue and I will get it "straight". But this morning as I was shaving I got pretty upset and discouraged. I think I won't shave before work any more. Too much other stuff on my mind.

+1 on sending it to a honemeister!! Especially a blade like a Dovo. It's always a good idea to start out with a real shave-ready, so that when you hone, you have something to go by.

I would suggest buying a cheaper, vintage blade to practice honing on ($35-50 in the B/S/T). That way, if you do accidentally mess something up, you're not out that much money.

I have yet to try honing on my own. For the first little while, I'd rather have someone else do it right for me I'll just practice my technique!

This weekend I plan on a detailed search for my old razor. I loved that thing and it was a joy to use. Meanwhile my new Dovo is off to be honed good 'n proper.
