Default Newbie having success with a little help

First off all of the members that post here have been very helpful in this new endeavor, Kenrup was very helpful in setting me up, and although there was a little fear in starting to shave with a straight, I have to say it has been good so far. My first attempt was acceptable but rather painful, no loss of blood, but still the burn was there for at least 12 hours. The second shave a day later, I know I'm nutts, was better but there was still a good burn going on. So I waited two days and tried something new, I got some baby oil, and I got some Dr. Bronners Peppermint soap, my ex turned me on to this for shaving long ago as it is very soothing. I took a hot shower, then rubbed some baby oil in then worked up a lather with the peppermint soap and went to it. Thrid shave and it was baby smooth, there were a couple of spots of blood but all in all it was good. I think I am getting the hang of it, but I would like to see if anyone else has gone the baby oil and Dr. Bronners route. I also have some of Mama bears soap on the way. Also a reccomendation when first starting unless you like the sting, stay away from alcohol based after shaves. If you have ever seen "Home Alone" that was me. OUCH!!!!!

An alum block will make life a better. Use it post shave. Rinse your face with cold water, leave wet, then run the block over your shave area.
