Thread: A friend of mine told me

Since I am rather new to straight razors I have no idea if he is putting me on or he is telling me the truth. A friend told me that he once shaved with a kitchen knife and once with a pocket knife. Is he kidding me, lying to me or telling me something that might actually work?

Probably the last two.

Hmm... assuming the blades were scary sharp he would have still had an uncomfortable shave if a shave at all. Capable of taking off hairs? Sure, I'd believe it. A smooth and comfortable shave? I'd need proof.

There are pictures of people who hone their axes enough to remove hair. And though they're smiling in the pictures, I'm sure it's only because shaving with a massive throwing axe is just funny.

Very simple. Make him do it again in front of you. If he did it once, then he should be able to do it again.

If he stalls, then call him on his BS, and if he does it, then tape it and post for all of us to see.

SEEING HOW THE FIRST SHAVES WERE OBTAIN BY BURNING THE HAIRS OFF AND USING CHIPPED PIECES OF ROCK......VERY POSSIBLE...

I have seen some one take a regular butter knife and sharpen it, w/t the sharpener he was selling, and then shave his face.
also I know a guy that was hauling some chemical, went to drop it off, and they would not let him on site, until he shaved and could put a mask on, so he went back to his truck. and pretty well scraped his beard off w/t his pocket knife. And when I saw him it looked like he had gotten in a fight w/t a badger.
So is it possible, yes. but it sure will not be something the wife wants to come close to.

Well I once saw John Wayne shave with a hunting knife in a movie. If the Duke could do it well it must be true eh?

If he passes the test, give him a broken shard of glass and see if he can get that to work.

Might need it someday when he's marooned on an island...
