    Default First Shave

While waiting on Wapis to arrive, I picked up a disposable razor using Merkur blades for practice. Did my first shave today using all the great info on this forum. The process took about 45 minutes. I was going to do 3 passes (wtg, xtg & atg) but it was all I could do to focus on keeping that blade at 30 degrees while figuring out how to hold the blade for the different angles and contours of my face. The grain direction became irrelevant. I'm sure as I become more comfortable, I'll be able to figure that out. I ended up shaving twice producing a few nicks with one requiring the styptic. The great thing was that I achieved a shave that rivaled the closeness of those recieved by barbers and this is why I am here. Love that close smooth shave.

Thanks to all who share in this forum. It's been a great education.

You know, I think a big part of the reason I like shaving with a straight is that it's not easy. It does take time and in this age of instant gratification it's a pleasure to do something in a way that hasn't been simplified and made "convenient". Enjoy the journey, the satisfaction of seeing your shaves improve day by day is remarkable.
