    Default My Intro

Hey Guys just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I am new to str8 razors by about a month, but have been wetshaving since around July Of '07. I have always wanted to learn to shave with a str8 razor and am finally getting started. I bought a Dovo 5/8 Special tortoise that was pre-honed by Lynn. I also have an older F.W. Engels 5/8 razor. I bought a tony miller starter strop. I have now been shaving off and on with the Dovo razor since the first week of January. I think I am slowly getting the hang of it, but it has been up and down. I have gotten some two nice sized cuts and a few minor nicks. The cuts were due to my own complacency. Overall I think I am doing good, but haven't gotten that great shave yet. I would say about as good as when I started shaving with the DE. My shaves do seem to be getting better everytime. Glad to be here. Oh yeah I just came back from being deployed so this is the first time I hae actually had to take my time shaving and enjoy the old fashioned art of wetshaving, which is way better than I ever did with the M3 and Edge gel. I still can't figure out how ya'll shave the chin, just can't do it yet. I can do the cheeks and do fairly good on the neck. The nose area is giving me some irritation, and I can do under the bottom lip, but just can't do the actual curve down the chin, just freaks me out too much right now. Well that is it for now.

Welcome Trevor. It will take a little time to master the chin. Make sure you strop at least 50 times before every shave. I have around 50 razors and my F.W. Engels is my sharpest and smoothest shaver and glides over my chin area. I don't know how you maintain your razors but I have had good luck finishing mine on paddle strops with diamond pastes. Good luck and keep going. It will get better and your confidence will grow.

I got the Engels for free from a friend of my dads. It was in good shape just needed some cleaning. I have only used it twice but both times got a really good shave with it. I think it may need to be honed. I currently only strop my two razors. I strop about 30 times, I will try doing more reps, thanks. I plan on getting the paddle strop with pasted sides, my be a little longer wait though.
