    Default My first shave

Alright...so I bought everything I need to shave, and I sat down and looked at this pretty little thing I bought from izlat:

I talked to her for a bit, unhealthy I know, but there were some guidelines on cutting face that we needed to discuss...I lathered up some soap with this nice brush I got from atracksler:

...I took a deep breath, and considered everything I'd learned from SRP and youtube...and I did it...I shaved my whole face...no nicks or scratches or cuts...it was a fantastic feeling...I was kinda disappointed when I ran out of stubble

Wanted to thank all of you guys who make this place what it is. I'm never going back to disposables...period. I thought maybe I should try safety razors first, but I jumped right into a straight, and...the water is warm

Wow. Congratulations man! I only hope I can have that much success when my first shave comes around.

Care to share what kind of soap/cream you used? Did you do only a WTG pass, or XTG and/or ATG?

I don't have very good soap at all to be honest...I don't even think it's shaving soap, I wasn't able to find any so I just used some soap called every man jack I picked up at target that happened to have glycerin in it (maybe they all do). I need to get some good soap that'll lather well. I put a hot towel on my face for a bit, and then used a Every Man Jack pre-shave face wash...then proceeded with lathering as best as I could with that soap...I took my time and shaved with the grain and a bit across the grain (to experiment) - did this twice...i didn't want to get fancy go against the grain my first time

Scariest part was the neck of course...but i made it through...then splashed some "tend skin" on and old spice after shave and post shave lotion

I feel like a million bucks

Shaving down is With The Grain.

    Two passes though, that's confidence!

They usually recommend against shaving ATG until you've got some experience behind you. I do it very rarely, and usually just in a few "trouble" spots on my neck. The soap you used can't be all that bad - you didn't seem to have problems with nicks or irritation. Williams shave soap is sold at Wal-Mart (although I've never used it so can't recommend it).

Go to Colleen's site, get her contact info, and ask for one of these:

With the Grain is just with the grain... If I shave down on my neck, I'm going Against the Grain...

Two passes though is a testament to slow / steady / confidence (or stupidity! )

No problem. There's really no way to "Add to Cart" for that, so just drop her an email saying you want the sampler.

I just ordered a sampler myself, and should have it next week! :-P

I also just checked my UPS tracking and should have my razor tomorrow!!! Gotta jet to CVS or Walgreens or something for some basic cream so I can try it out on as soon as my brush shows up.
