    Default First shave!

    Hey guys,
I know I haven't posted in a while. My razor finally arrived yesterday! Thanks, izlat. I had had the mug, soap and brush for a couple days before the straight arrived, so I had gotten used to getting a decent lather. I showered, lathered and shaved and for my first one, was very impressed. I watched the DVD and used similar techniques. Luckily, I'm fairly ambidexterous so I didn't have a problem switching hands. The shave in all was very close, almost as close as my Mach 3 shaves, and I'm anticipating them to get much better soon. I only nicked myself twice very minorly when I accidentally increased the blade angle a bit too much. I think next time I need to focus on using a bit of a lighter touch as I felt some slight burn after the shave. I did shave my whole face and neck though, even braving some against the grain strokes (not too many). Definitely a passable shave for the first time! Another satisfied newbie! Thanks for all your help guys.

This sounds like a great first shave!

Watch out for that burn - I really hate to get it, even more than small nicks... It's telling you that something wasn't optimal - pressure, angle (too much scraping vs. cutting) etc.

Also - ATG strokes may be too much in the first several shaves until your skin adjusts

    Cheers
    Ivo

Ahh thanks, Ivo. I shaved again today with the straight. This shave wasn't as good, much more burn, face is hurting a bit right now. Only one VERY minor nick though, so not all bad. I'm sure it has to do with the angle and pressure. I just need to pay more attention to that next time.
