Sorry for late response. I am driving up to Dallas for the semester Wednesday. Any time after that I am good. I don't mind meeting in either of the cities, but since Arlington is in the middle why not find some place there?

The end of this week just got busy on me but I should be good for Tuesday next week. I can meet pretty much anywhere in the DFW area for a lunch and chat. I figured we'd keep this inthe open forum to invite anyone who might be interested . Let me know about a location/date/time that is good. There are some new places off of Matlock and I20 if that's a good area for everyone.

Default Next week bad for me...

OK, I am in conference in San An all next week, running with hair on fire till then - will be back next Friday - will be up anytime after that.

Parks' Mall would be fine, Lincoln Square off 30 would be fine, Humperdincks over by Six Flags would be fine, TGIF in Ballpark might be an idea (on a non-Ranger night if there IS such a thing).

Need to find a place where shiny sharp cut-throat objects will not be discriminated against or used to cut meatloaf.

    I am up, really, whenever.

Maybe we could convince John Crowley to bring some merchandise to show and tell? I will bring some cases, recent restos and my beloved Moss scuttle for those who have not seen one in person? We could make a mini-convention of it.

    Just a thought,

    K

    Default Boys!

    Dewey and Hans!

I e-mailed John Crowley and he is IN, will bring some nice scents for testing and some of those fancy Friodurs or Wacker razors he has and what not to our little DFW tryst! Saturdays are best for him, and I am thinking about lunch maybe someplace with a large table, and some nice micros on tap! This is turning out to be a cool event - I think we should post this in general as a DFW announcement, what do you guys think?

    Kriton, Hans and John,
Sounds great to me. TGIFridays is long gone from the Ballpark. It is some kind of restaurant but not sure what even though I was there once. There is a brewery place (BJ's or something like that at Matlock and I20) and they have some room to spread out. Just East of the Parks Mall on I20. This is sounding very cool. Hope a few others will read the thread and come along. Now, for the date and time?????

Default Old guy new to straights - - -

    - - - and I live in the Dallas area. By hobby I'm a cutler (knifemaker) and know a bit about sharpening things. I'm learning how to sharpen razors - it's a bit different than sharpening knives, that's for sure!! It seems to take a real delicate touch. And, it appears that the stroping is just as important as the honing.

This isn't turning out so bad at all.

    Default Logistical Problems

Well, I have some logistical problems this week. My 84 year old mother just had a hip replacement. I need to get her out of her physical rehab center, take her home and stay with her a few days to be sure she can handle herself. Saturday, my blacksmith group meets in Fort Worth - an all day meeting. Then, next week my wife and I are going to Hot Springs for most of the week to celebrate our 40th wedding aniversary (if she's still speaking to me, that is ). But, keep the thread going - if there is a second get-to-gether, maybe I can make it.

I'm sure we can accept a 2nd reason to get out of the house, Jacque.

Hans & Kriton - Saturday would normally be a good day for me but I will be taking the family to San Antone this Saturday. (We have been talking about it but it was not a sure thing until today.) Again, I'll be available during the week or if we want to rechedule for next Saturday.... Otherwise I'll just have to catch you with Jacque on the next go-round. Just let me know!

    Default I'm interested, too

    Hello.

I'm a new member, in the Dallas area, and was wondering if I'd be welcome to your get-together (whenever it gets definitively scheduled.) I actually haven't tried the straight razor yet and had been preparing to ask some questions here, before buying a razor and paraphernalia, but the thought of an in-person get-together seems even better.

Also, if any of you who are coming would have a razor/strop combo appropriate for a beginner, I would be more than interested in buying, though I admit my tight budget is what has stopped me from buying already.

    Thanks!

    --Maeglin
