I have very tough whiskers on both my upper lip and my chin. Buffing helped. Then I tried a near wedge 9/16 as opposed to the full hollow I had been using and it was much more effective and comfortable when buffing against the grain. So now I shave with two razors each shave. Kind of an expensive fix, but since I only straight shave on weekends I find it fun.

The upper lip is a tough area for me also, but I've got an excuse. Totaled a motorcycle in Arkansas and scraped the right 1/3 of that area off using asphalt. Got a skin graph but a razor certainly finds imperfections!

Slow and easy gets it done.

I do the same except I do S to N last. It’s really not scary I use a technique with both hands on the spine and go slow.

N to S and then S to N. If your blade is sharp enough you need little force so there's no chance you will dig the blade into your nose. If you curl your lips around your upper lips you will widen the angle between nose and lip.

i do the same thing. i hold the blade with both hands and keep the blade still and move my face, it seems more controlled that way

I've been doing a "dead man's pass" too. I hold the razor steady and move my head slowly and carefully S to N while Im looking in a magnifying mirror. So far so good.

Was struggling here a lot till about two days ago. Practiced a pencil type grip with the buffer technique described earlier. Used a butter knife to practice the hold and two real runs later I'm sitting pretty.
