Thread: Strop suggestions?

I have had a SRP member sell me a nice reasonably priced razor to get started with. I think I will now be needing a strop. Any suggestions on a serviceable reasonably priced strop for a neophyte? I have plenty of shaving gear from my DE addiction so I think I am set otherwise to start. I think I might have read that I may need mineral oil to keep the blade from rusting?

this is a relatively uknown strop but is very inexpensive and performs very very well. As good as the higher end new strops. The only downside is that there is no fabric side. but I just sand the back of the strop down to 320 grit and use it like fabric and it works great. Would recommend picking one up. for the price it cannot be beat

I nicked my first strop enough that it was not very usable, so I recommend that if you spend a little more on your strop, be sure to get one with a replaceable leather.

A strop is essential and you will definitely need one. As RezDog said you will likely nick your first one so maybe don't push the boat out too much. Other than that, practice the technique with a butter knife or something else that is dull. I don't have experience wit the strops that Butzy has mentioned, but if he recommends them I am sure that one will serve you well. The leather side is the most important and you can try something with a fabric side at a later date.

Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on. My first strop was a Premier 3" from Shave Nation and it served me very well for a good while. I still have it and it does have a few nicks in it but nothing too serious.

Butzy, I took your advice and strop is on the way.....as well as a bottle of aftershave I did not need. Thank you sir for helping enable me in my ongoing struggle with RAD.

as for enabling your RAD... to date I have found no cure. So I say if you can't beat it, enjoy it!
