That wouldn't exactly work for me, because I've shaved with a DE maybe twice, ever.

An SE would be a more viable option, but they don't play well with intentional facial hair.

Yea, if you have only used a DE twice I can see that being a problem. I started with DEs and have used them on and off for 45 years or so.

When you say SE, do you mean an SE like the GEMs or a Straight razor? I have worn a mustache for going on 30 years and not had a problem with any razor I have used.

Just goes to show how shaving is an experience unique to each individual or a fancy way of saying YMMV.

DE razors scare the pants off me.

Never gave it a try. One pass, ATG. Might have to try that one. I can see a very sharp blade will be needed for sure.
I did use DE's for a year including SE's but I didn't find them as fun. Dont know if I'll ever pick one back up but I got some and blades. A one pass shave would take a lot of the fun out of it. Dont hurt to try though. Just for giggles.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

I was talking about GEM type SEs, they give me results equal to those of straight razors.

Straights are simply much better for me getting straight lines on my mutton chops. If it were just the moustache, I'd probably opt for an SE every now and then, as they're lots of fun as well and very practical.

Yes, those old GEM type SEs really do the job for me too.

I can manage a WTG/ATG two pass shave. But a first pass ATG would be bloody.

I've been doing it for years.

    I got easily irritated skin.

So years back I decided to stick with only doing one pass, ATG. Somehow my face likes this pass the best.
A well honed and stropped razor and a good prep/lather/softening is a must.
Took me a while to perfect the technique for it, but pretty much use a very low angle, almost flat against my face seems to work for me.

(I might slightly prefer a Thüringer finish over a Coticule finish for a one pass ATG shave, sharpness helps)

I do one pass and shave every other day.

Never tried one pass ATG, my routine is one pass WTG and one combo of ATG/XTG so a total of two passes and it's a DFS and good for me.
