It did have a couple small surface rust spots, that cleaned off without much of a fight.

What you are probably seeing is a trade mark engraving on the blade.

@Hirlau, I think this one of those "sight unseen" razors (you dont get to see or pick them), cheap, with some issues, but Ok to shave.

Yes, cheap. For someone starting out, it's a good deal for a razor that is ready to wack some whiskers. By no means will it win a beauty contest.

Let me be clear first, please,, I don't know Larry and the majority of his clients are happy with what they receive.

I don't agree with his method of targeting beginners with a "sight unseen" product, thus justifying a razor in the condition like the one pictured above.

I would like to say more concerning this razor, but I am bound by the rules of this forum against vendor bashing.

We are all adults here & responsible for our own decisions, thus, if want to shave with that razor, have at it.

He has a sight unseen flawed razor for $28 that is fully functional and ready to shave with that has some flaws.

If you don't want it to have flaws there is another kind of sight unseen for $43 and if you need to see the razor beforehand he has plenty of those as well.

I don't see that there is anything to complain about with Whipped Dog given all of the options that he offers.

At $28 he is offering a chance to get a straight razor at a price that is little more than the cost of a honing service.

This is how I started out as well. I later dropped mine and cracked the scales and replaced them but kept the blade. I am still using it and it is as good as any of the other blades.

    Hello gcbryan,,,

Less than 5 minutes it would have taken to clean that razor up, with a small piece of 600 wet/dry, but no,,, I'll just knock the price down & pass it on to a fellow wet shaver. Really

We have "Sight Seen" razors for $40.00 regularly in the classifieds.
Countless times I have seen members here take a chance & send a new member a razor without flaws, honed,,, for FREE.

Price has nothing to do with the issue here, it is all in the motive, this is what I have issue with.

gcbryan do you own a Whipped Dog razor?

I pointed out that I do have one. I see nothing wrong with Larry's motives. I started with one of his $28 razors and a cut down (quartered) Cnat for $15.

I think his motives are quite good actually. I also have no problems with this site either obviously.

I don't see that a member here sending someone a razor for free has any bearing on Whipped Dog however.

There are also razors for sale on here for $60 that I could get on Ebay all day long for $20.

There are many good ways to get good razors but Whipped Dog is one among many IMO.

I think there are advantages of having Larry around with these cheap options. At least there is some sort of quality gate and you can talk to him. It isn't for someone looking for a specific razor is a great condition, but I could see myself talking to him, if I needed a few beat up straights to test stones and be able to shave with them after.

For someone just starting out, not knowing anything about shaving, or honing a straight razor, not knowing anything about some guys at a shaving forum, not wanting to gamble on ebay, just wanting to try and see what it's like to shave with a straight, possibly tossing it in the garbage or whatever after having butchered their face.... just saying, MAYBE the Whipped dog is a great option.
