    I would recommend either the Muhle R89 or the Edwin Jagger DE 89. They are both essentially the same razor, just with different handles.

    They are considered to be milder on the aggressiveness scale and so more suitable for beginners. The slant that JimmyHAD recommends is more aggressive and would be a dive into deep water as he says. That said if you can resist using too much pressure it will give you a very close shave, but it will be much less forgiving that the 89 heads I have mentioned.

    It all really depends on your technique, beard type and how sensitive your skin may be. After some practice using proper shaving soap or cream as opposed to supermarket gunk you will get the best shaves of your life and your skin will thank you for it too.

    That's the Merkur Deluxe faux ivory double track razor set and the stand probably had a sticker on the bottom of it that said Merkur or Dovo Merkur. The brush is a pretty good (not to floppy) Merkur pure badger.

    I think your set is from around 2005. One of the brushophiles can probably tell you the date closer based on the brush handle.
