Thread: Therapy Indicated?

I've very recently bought a Solingen Boker straight razor. I've yet to use it, though my girlfriend shaved at least part of legs with it last Friday. That razor still had packing oil on it. I was watching college football and not paying attention to her. I told her that if she had cut herself that oil on the blade could cause a nasty infection. I was pleasantly surprised that when I cleaned it I saw a lot of her hair of it. It does really work.

This morning I bought a Boker Edelweiss, yet I've yet to use the first razor I bought. So when is straight razor therapy indicated? Will I have to attend a 12-step program?

Heck, I don't own a strop, a badger brush, an 8000 grit stone, or even shaving soap. So what can I expect? Will I have a collection of straight razors before I get around to using one? I'm already thinking of diversifying. I'm considering other Solingen brands, like Dovo.

I'm probably going to buy my girlfriend a straight razor for Christmas. I've told her to get pampered at a salon where a woman will shave her legs with a straight razor. That way, she can watch a professional practicing the art of straight razor shaving. What she doesn't get is that straight razor shaving is a process, not an instinctive process of dragging a Fusion over shower soaped legs. Hence, without a tutor or a professional showing her how it's done, I'm afraid that she'll cut the heck outta herself.

Here's a question I've been pondering. I hope one of the more experienced posters can help me with the answer. How long should my girlfriend go without shaving her legs before she tries straight razor shaving? I'm guessing two weeks for her first rear try.

BTW, I went with an Edelweiss based upon positive reviews about it that I've read here.

One more question: how many straight razors constitute a collection?

I gotta run. I have to check out straight razor therapy in my area.

BTW, there are few things that look as cool and as masculine as a straight razor.

Best advice I can give here, is your girlfriend needs her own, so you should shop!! hahaa

On your way home from work, stop at Walmart. Pick up a puck of Van der Hagen Luxury shave soap, a tube of Creamo, and a Van der Hagen brush. Then stop at your favorite diner and order a cup of coffee. Tell the waitress it was a great cup of coffee and ask her if you may keep the cup. Most of the time they will give it to you if it has the diner's name on it for advertising purposes. This will be your shaving mug. When you get home fire up your computer and go to Straight Razor Designs and order a strop from Lynn Abrams. Next go to Lynn's youtube site and watch all of his videos twice. Then watch his videos about stropping and lathering twice more. Sounds like you have some great razors, the rest is up to you. Good luck and happy shaving.

100 or less would probably be a collection, anything above that would probably be moving into the hoard category lol!!

Thanks for the advice. However, I think I'm gonna stop by a grocery store, pick up a 6-pack, and watch football. And tomorrow, my grilfriend and I are leaving on a road trip for a few days.

No. If she wants it, she'll take it. She thinks what she finds in my home is hers.

If I do buy a straight razor for her, I'll probably go with a Boker. However, should women tell me to go with another brand, I'd probably do it. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to women grooming practices. Even when I was married, I never paid a bit of attention to how my ex-wife shaved. I've never paid attention to how my girlfriend grooms. But I can begin to sense anxiety when she takes twice past forever to get ready.

Most things women worry about men never notice.

If I remember correctly, the only difference between men's & women's cartridge razors is the angle of blades. Apparently, facial angles are different than an angle of a woman shaving her legs. But then again, I do know that my girlfriend has used my Fusion razor. I do know that my girlfriend does not use any form of shaving cream. She uses bath soap. I don't think that bath soap works with straight razor shaving.

The onlf difference I noticed between cartridges oscthe amount if plastic used.
As car as staight razor brands. St least with the modern ones the only difference is the name stamped on them, they shave the same. There are slight differences but at this dtsve it shouldn't really matter what one you pick, you could get her a Dovo best, and she would be just as pleased as if you got her a Dorko.
