a few days ago my wife purchased me a boker straight razor the shave cream I use is noxzema I like it and doesn't dry out fast. have watched many SR shaving tips on youtube.com but when I take my time end up cutting then shaving.

Can someone me some pointers my first SR and the razor is Sharp out of the box.

Hi and welcome. Most razors require honing from the factory. Stropping is also required and poor stropping can affect the edge as well. Sounds like you need honing and possibly a better soap

Where do you live? There may be a member nearby that can mentor you.

thank you both for replying. I did ask my wife and she showed me on the paper work
from one of our local SR shops the razor was "ready to shave out of the box" the way it came from the factory used it maybe three times not full shaves. I do have a leather
strop and am sure am using it right.

what soap would you recommend I live in northern arizona

The n it's not shave ready, factory edges are not the get, and there are not a few shave shops ha se and hone razors. Tc

So they are factory shave ready which usually means that it will shave but poorly. So send them to get honed and check out the saops in the soaps forum. Obie has a very helpful thread in there.

since am new to classic shaving can you recommend a trusted honer don't want to do this myself until I know what I am doing since both SR's are somewhat high dollar item's

A while ago a member gave me a tip.
"Shave the Shave Cream , not th whiskers" Easy goes it light pressure all the way.
Of course like earlier comments hone and sharpen.
H
