    Hi Team,

My names Kyall and i am all the way from the small New Zealand in the South Pacific.

I am new to this site and to the world of Straight Razors.

I have inherited a couple of razors from my father in law who was a barber and had them passed down from his father (also a barber).

    I have had a look online but am still abit unsure of what i have, details as below;

    1.

Written on blade: Joseph Rodgers & Sons No2 Star & Cross Razor

Written on front of tang: JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS
    *+CUTLERS TO HIS MAJESTY
    No6 NORFOLK STREET
    SHEFFIELD
Also has ENGLAND written in an arc at rear of text

Written on rear of tang: ROUND IN SHEFFIELD

Dark brown handle, when closed fits in a 4/8" box (not original box).

    In need of restoration/polish

    2.

Written on front of tang: 132 RED IMP WEDGE
Written on rear of tang: Giesen & Forsthoff
    Solingen Germany
    With orignal box that says:

Ludo Shear & Razor WORKS Solingen Germany - RED IMP WEDGE 132

Does anyone know where i could find out the age/history of these items.

    Thanks

Hi Kyall from another kiwi. Both well regarded razors here. Post some pics so we can evaluate condition. Most barber razors have been well used. Use the search button here to find out more about them. Plenty of info.

Hi and welcome. Some good quality razors there. In advanced reply there is a paper clip symbol this will take you to uploading attachments. Clicking on the down symbol next to it will bring it up for attaching.

Both are excellent razors, granted they haven't seen a ton of hone wear. Look forward to seeing the pictures.

    Welcome to SRP!
Those are some nice razor brands. Get them properly honed and start shaving.

The Rodgers in particular looks very nice!! Use some 0000 Steel Wool and some metal polish and see where that gets you. Red Imps are highly regarded and hold a very nice edge, that one looks to have some hone wear but should hone up well

The red imp is well worn, heavy hone wear. The Rodgers looks salvageable. Both could shave again, but it would take a lot of effort. Great heirlooms none the less. If your father in law was a barber, try and find out if he had any hones or sharpening stones in his kit. Strops etc.
Have a look at the classifieds here if you want to learn to shave, you can pick up a "shave ready" razor quite often for around $50 US. Gives you a good starting point.

Might pay to check to see if there are any local members could help you out or even throw you some links to decent bengalls on trade me. See plenty going often enough and some in good condition. Know one bloke originally from nz buys from there often.
