Newspaper makes a good interim strop on the cheap. You will be fine for a couple shaves. Having poor stropping to start you are lucky to maintain the edge not stropping will see the edge degrade quickly

That's a great recommendation! And yeah, I need to strop before every shave.

Hope that your first shave goes well. I know that it took me about a month to get the hang without cutting the chin or under the neck. Definitely would recommend stropping in between the shaves.
