Default New to the Forum, and wanted to ask a few questions about the razors I own.

I have been shaving with a straight razor (perhaps not often, but it has been my sole implement) for the past few years, and I have just started to get curious about some history and general info about my razors.

My grandmother gave me two razors, a Wade and Butcher (no etching, logo says "WADE & BUTCHER" Sheffield England, with the B >>>----+ logo underneath) and a Marshall Wells "Marswell 115"

The W&B is my favorite, because it is a tad wider (around 6.5/8")

    here are some pictures:

Now onto my questions. How much better do razors get? are there better quality razors i should be 'honing' in on if I want to make a hobby out of this? Also, how exactly do you identify the grind? I have seen the diagrams, but they are rather small, and hard for me to make out. Do y'all have any insight as to what grind you think these would be? while we're talking about grinds, why would someone want a full wedge?

I have ascertained that my W&B razor is not pre 1890 because it includes the "England" part on the stamp. when did they stop stamping their blades the way mine is stamped?

Anyhow, if any of those questions strike an interest in sharing some wisdom, I would be glad to hear it!

    Thanks guys

Hi and welcome. I think you will find the Marshall is older as it doesn't state solingen and the butcher actually states sheffield. Cant remember the year but early 1900s brought in marking of town as well as country. Plenty of knowledge folks hete sure you will find more as others post. Posting in the razor forum could help also

We have quite a few Guys across the state

There has been a bit of discussion about a S Idaho Meet in the Nampa Boise area

We have had several meets in Spokane, Seattle, and Yakima, over the last 7 years

Great times and tons of info packed into them

The Top Razor is Hollow ground if I have to guess somewhere around a 1/2 hollow

The bottom one is probably a full hollow

Keep in mind doing this by way of an internet pic is a WAG at best
