I have 12 razors in the bathroom in a cabinet that I never oil and have no rust problems. It isn't all that humid here in the San Francisco Bay area though.

It depends on how much you steam up your bathroom.
Before moving mine into the bathroom (which I have yet to steam up), I put a steel cut nail on the counter for a week. When it didn't rust up, I figured I was good to go. Haven't had rust on a razor yet.

So find yourself a nail or other piece of scrap steel and leave in the bathroom for a week. Then you will know whether a razor will rust in there or not.

So, will a light application of baby oil inhibit rust? I'm new to this and have been using baby oil over the last month on my razors. No rust, but I've been worried about getting any oil on the scales.

You can use Baby Oil (mineral oil plus scent) if and only if the blade is perfectly dry before the oil application. Oil can trap moisture which will lead to rust.

Blades should always be allowed to air dry before storage.

my shaving razors are in the bathroom cabinet. I have 3-4 on my rotation (depends on which of them is in the workshop, waiting to be refreshed), and I shave every 3-4 days (the privileges of working from home..). That means 9-16 days between uses.
Now, I do oil mine after use with castor oil and I live in the desert, which is very dry. Also, my bathroom is well-ventilated (although my wife really likes the window closed when she showers, in order to CATCH the humidity in... imagine that..)...
All that been said, sometimes I find tiny spots of rust on a razor, around the pivot area where it's kind of difficult to dry...

so I say - why not oil the razor..? It takes less than a minute and can't hurt :]
