    Default Anyone in Tulsa?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone lives around the Tulsa area that would possibly be willing to teach me how to hone and give some pointers on my stropping. I've only been straight shaving for a couple weeks now but I really enjoy it, and want to learn as much as I can. Let me know!

I would like to know as well. I’ve been practicing with a cheap W&B wedge off eBay. I’ve done a fair job of mangling that blade. Then I purchased a Dovo and have shaved with it for a few weeks. And after my first attempt to hone that blade, I’d rather not try to ‘fix’ it myself. So it has to be my technique. Thing is, I learn better by watching live people. Like the difference between a personal trainer and an exercise dvd.

I think to learn how to hone properly is worth a long drive from Arkansas.

Or if someone could point me in the right direction of how to contact someone relatively close by, I would appreciate it. I’ve checked the classifieds, and while I might send my wedge to be professionally done, I’d like to learn how to do things correctly sooner rather than later. Less bad habits to break.

Welcome, but let me give free advise, honing can come at anytime, but learning to shave needs to come first along with stropping. It's hard to learn to gone when the learning curve us tough enough with shaving.
Then you will have a good idea about what is shave ready. And I. The meantime it's cheaper than going out and buying hones just to hack at it till your on a good term with your razor. Just advise, I,m sure you will do as you please, just trying to help, as to help there us a guy I know down in Ok. By the bane of Scott he's a real good guy who can show you a bunch if your willing to go see him. Tc

same for you , if you do a search for people in your area it might help, your right one on one is worth a thousand videos, until then it's best to keep your razor in great shape, this shortens your shaving schooling. My self I,m about 5 hours from you, also look for meet ups, as a matter of fact there is one outside of Kansas City coming up in a week I believe, that's not that far maybe 6 hours from you. And there us going to be some really knowledgable hone guys there. Tc

I understand what you're saying, actually I've gotten pretty good shaves with three passes not BBS but very close. One of my problems is stropping I feel like I dull the blade I've been practicing more with a dull blade and think it's improved but would be nice to have someone tell me how my technique is.

I completly understand, I wish I could have sat down with someone in the beginning to show me how to shave a strop, I,m 2 1/2 years into this and I have managed to come around to great shaves and stropping. Just now got around to honing(2 razors) didn't miss it at all , once I got to where I could shave right and strop right, it didn't need the hones very often, but I feel I can branch out now just cause I do know what an edge should be. Good luck and look up Scott if your serious about help, I can tell you that you will be in good hands , also forgot Bill, he's in Bartlesville, long time member who handles our monthly give aways, great guy, always willing to help. Tc. ScottGoodman. And Str8razor? I think
