Right, because accidental throat sittings while shaving led to the demise of many young and grown men over the past how many centuries?

I have done it and came out without a Nick.

Normally I had no trouble shaving on a DDH (helicopter carrying destroyer) of about 22,000 ton displacement with a Cart or DE razor. I could never see myself in a heavy sea state where you held on to something to keep yourself on your feet with one hand and tried to shave with the other using a straight razor. It surely does depend on the sea state and size of the bateau you are on what shave weapon of choice you use if any.

I always think it's so interesting how many people say this when I tell them they should try straight razor shaving. "Are you kidding me? I'd kill myself!" Really?......I mean unless your hand is going to suddenly convulse and yank backward with a sawing motion towards your throat.....i think you'll be ok. I knew I'd cut myself when I started shaving with one, but it's never really been much worse than what I've done with a cartridge razor.....well ok maybe a little worse, but not to the point where I'm going to up the life insurance policy by any means. ;-)

I had this very conversation yesterday as I was coming off shift. One of the guys on the next crew had a large band aid across his side burn. He said he cut himself shaving to which I replied "that wouldn't have happened if your shaved like a man." We all know that aint true but hey I had to bust his chops. He asked what I used and I told him a straight. "Oh man I would butcher myself for sure, you gotta be careful with those things." He then proceeded to tell me he lost the handle to his cartridge razor so he just held onto it with a hemostat(surgical clamps). All I could do was shake my head. Before I left, I gave him a little insight on this great past time of ours and I may have a convert on my hands. Lucky thing for him I have a spare razor and strop

I can't imagine carrying my shaving gear to work, never mind actually shaving at work. Surprised HR doesn't come down on you for bringing a "weapon" to work.

I work in Prudhoe Bay,two weeks on and two off,The only thing I travel with back and forth is a small carry on.

I used to have a locker at a gym at the University of Iowa. I kept a 7 day razor set, a strop, brush and mug, and a barber hone in that locker for almost 10 years. I used to get a few odd looks when I would strop at my locker or shave at one of the 8 sinks in a row. Only a few people ever asked my about how I shaved. One guy asked me "are those legal?"

One older guy stood out though. He came around the corner, stopped dead, and yelled (I mean YELLED) "Good God, a straight man!!!" In the men's locker room, I'm pretty sure those out of line of sight were a bit puzzled.

LoL that's funny,Ya I get strange looks,guys that look away like if they don't look they will be safe and then turn and walk out.Then there are the guys that can't believe what there seeing.I had one guy last week ,a old timer that said ah the art of shaving,I stoped wet shaving years ago and went electric,I said as I was doing a upstroke on the neck: turned in your man card when you did that.He didn't know what to say but came back in while I was on my second pass and said I did not turn in my man card turned around and walked out.I had to stop shaving due to the tears.

The fact that he had to come back in just for the purpose of denying turning in his man card proves that he already had turned it in.

By the way, where can I get one of those?
