As I say in Beginner's Tips, Van Der Hagen is a good, inexpensive soap that lathers well. Not their glycerin, but their deluxe (I think that's the name) soap. After you are more familiar with shaving techniques then you could try various sample size soaps and creams from various sites.

LOL that will happen with this hobby. As to soap there is a ton of options. I will give some general locally available options for you. VDH deluxe as mention is a good option most drug stores seem to carry it. The VDH luxury brand that Walmart and target are now carrying is also good soap. If you have a bath and body works near you the C.O. Bigalow tube shave cream is really good. At body shop the maca root shave cream is really good. Locctaine if you have one near the cade shave soap is really good. If you want to do some hunting barber shops that offer straight shaves seem to be popping up more recently and they tend to sell shave creams or soaps.

Oh don't forget a good after shave and nick stick

Another vote for VDH soap. Available at local locations mentioned and I find it at my Walgreens on sale for a couple of bucks. Great soap for the price. Never had problems getting an awesome lather out of it and nice, slick protection.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride! Ask if you need help. Lots of awesome responses if you need help!

Thanks Newell. I've just been reading everything available. Trying to absorb everything, while trying to not to get overwhelmed. Like a well-loaded brush, lol.

Reading keeps me busy and keeps me off Amazon. Which is a good thing I guess, considering my wife says I shop like a woman on their birthday, lol.
You know what we need?... Six blades.
