I thought I'd just share what my face looks like after my 17th shave with a double pass.
Its pretty obvious that my non dominant side is the one getting most nicks, but I don't think it's too bad and I'll keep working with the non dominant hand.
This pic is immediately after shaving so the skin hasn't had a chance to settle down.
I think I'm doing OK but what do the old timers on here think?

There are a number of possibilities that could cause this discomfort but we would need to know more about the razor, your experience and technique.
My first question would be about the shave readiness of the razor?

You are doing fine, normally takes about 30 shaves for everything to come together. I think it took me more, but that was a while ago.

Hi, my experience is minimal, just 17 shaves and the razor is most definitely shave ready, it's a Mastro Livi prepared by the master honemeister Lynn Abrams.
I'm not really suffering any discomfort it's just the odd nick, mainly due to the fact that I'm using my non dominant hand and getting to know my face.
I'm happy with my progress and also thought fellow newbies can get an idea of the sort of progress I'm experiencing and what to expect themselves. The nicks may look a little sore, but they don't hurt and with the dab of a styptic pencil, don't bleed and there is no lasting discomfort.
I'm certainly not worried or disheartened, in fact quite the contrary, I'm really enjoying the experience

Since the issue seems to be "one sided" I would first attend to how tightly you are pulling the skin on that side.

OTOH, my lower right chin area is more prone to irritation than the other side of the chin. It might just be your skin.

Hi Duncan, my advice, for what it's worth, is to not feel that there's some rule you have to use your non-dom hand at all. There are plenty of guys here who shave dominant hand only. I use my left hand (my non-dom) for the first pass (left side only) and could easily dispense with it. The reason I keep using it is because I'm a natural part-ambidexter and it's not that difficult for me; but I've never tried to do the right side of my face with it

Actually I can see better if I use my non Dom hand. I'm sure I'll be OK with it as when I broke my right arm I had to use my left for even the most basic of functions and I soon adapted to it.
Maybe I need to give my skin a rest for a couple of days as I have been shaving over nicks from the previous day, duh!

As long as your shaves are getting better you are OK.
Shave in the way that is most comfortable, when you feel more experienced you can spend more time with the non dominant hand.

I've just had my best shave ever, 3 pass and going really sloooow, it just keeps on getting better yay !!!!

That looks a lot like my first ever SR shave. But I knew that A, I did not lather my soap properly and B, I did not prep my face properly. My second shave went a lot better!
