    Late to the ball (again)

I'm glad Utopian stepped up. He's a well known and respected member and will make sure you at least have some good tools to start your shaving journey with.
As you have already noticed at this point, this site is filled with people willing (and able) to lend a hand. Glad to have you aboard Jack.

You can also search members in your area, everyone here is willing to help a noob, at least that has been my experience!
    Enjoy the journey.
    Cheers
Many thanks! Going to check that search for local members ASAP. ":-Dx (nice to be called a newb at 66yo. lol doens't happen oft)

Welcome to the forum Jack. Don't get disheartened. Sorry to say, the razor shaped object (RSO) you've bought off ebay is probably just total crap. The one on the way from China is likely to be the same. The strops probably won't be up to much either, but they may just be up to the job. Don't worry about it. You can at least practice your stropping technique with your RSOs. Utopian is a true gent. Kudos to him. There is almost certainly a member on here living fairly close to you, so maybe you can get together and get some invaluable advice, one to one. Priceless. Good luck.

Thanks! I called a barber I used to have, an older shop in the Amish country in DE. Daughter says she does it but learned off youtube. She's now running the shop. No telling how many customers she's lost. lol Her dad was there, I remember him most and he feigned off as if he'd lost the touch. So I am trying to find locals. I have yet to check this forum but I will.

I'm glad Utopian offered to send him a razor to try. If no one else stepped up I would have PIF'd him a vintage shave ready razor.

I cannot imagine the agony the OP would have had trying to scrape the hair off his face with that Razor shaped object, let alone trying to hone it when he has no bench mark or experience.

I remember when I started with a Gold Dollar, Cangooner PIF'd me an old Joseph Allen and sons which happens to be my favourite razor still! And I've acquired many more since.

    Good luck!

Thanks SOLITARY~ Well when I started to shave I knew right off something wasn't right so I quit. Hey I wonder if there is any worthiness to practicing with an non-sharpened. Getting the feel of how to hold the razor and stretch the skin? Maybe a little even? Thanks for the hearty wishes SOLITARYSOLDIER from this old ANCHOR-CLANKER! lol Jack ":-Dx
