You should also go to the main page, left hand side and click on Local Help. Scroll down to your state, if listed. At least should be one member that signed up to help any local to their area member with the beginning and on stages of straight razor shaving. If your state isn't listed checked adjoining states. Also check on the get together section to see if there are any meets coming up in your general area.

And kudos to Utopian for willing to lend you a shave ready vintage razor that will help get you going on the right path. Utopian's willingness is typical of SRP members. We are here to help anyone seriously interested in this demanding sport/hobby what ever you want to call it.

And "ditto" on the help of Utopian! Rare indeed and he's got a trusted person on this end. It will be returned with postage. Now to go purchase a styptic pencil. LOL

I got your PM. I'll try to get the razor out in a day or two. That's because I'll touch it up and test it tonight and then try to get it in the mail tomorrow.

Regarding your PM, I tried to get into both the Navy and Air Force bands. The Navy did not accept me but the Air Force did. Unfortunately they contacted me two weeks AFTER I had started college. They offered me the opportunity to start basic training in a couple of weeks, but if I stayed at college I could continue with my first taste of freedom and girls!!! Not going was a bad mistake but I was young, stupid, and h@rny!

I was at the Naval Sch of Music in 66-67. It changed to the Armed Forces Sch of Music and we began to see all uniforms. But I know you are long past being turned down by the Navy but let me tell you. If at that time they didn't need a certain instrument it was because they had too many. Not fair really. You could be good and be turned down. I auditioned on piano and do not think I was that great. What saved me was I also play sousaphone and I don't think any band every has enough of them, so I was accepted. It was the highlight of my musical life. I SHOULD HAVE done the full time. smh .. what we'd do differently if we could. I appreciate your offer so very much and take it faithfully to be returned.

    Welcome aboard!

As previously stated, take your time. One of the best tips I got here is: "Shave the lather and don't rush"
You can also search members in your area, everyone here is willing to help a noob, at least that has been my experience!
    Enjoy the journey.
    Cheers
