W.G. Wilton mystery
Why isn,t there information for this maker?! Perpetual obscurity!!! I'm getting stressed, the internet is supposed to have all the answers. I have this razor. It has dingy Masonic etchings on the blade and original handle, needs replaced desperately though.

There have been a couple of WG Wilton's that have popped up over the years, but I don't think anyone has ever found any information on them.

I know, it's easier to see with the naked eye, they are even harder to see in a photo, but their is what looks to be a horse shoe with a star in it. Thanks for your reply!

Wow! That looks like a very nice peice, thank you so much for this link! It's good to see, I still wish I could find some backstory on this maker though��. I'll keep trying but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tried and been semi unsuccessful, now I need to figure out what all the hype about shaving with one is about, I'm ashamed to say I'm terrified to attempt this, it seems like trail and error could prove fatal

Is there any safe way for me to clean the blade of stains? I would like to see the markings better but I can only make out a few. I tried never dull but it only helped a little

Unfortunately it seems that all of the razors with Masonic etchings suffer from the same problem--the etchings were always very shallow. As a result, just about anything that you do to fully remove the corrosion will also make the etching even more obscure. Any kind of abrasive that can fully remove the corrosion will also reduce the etching, though a vibratory tumbler minimizes the etching loss.
If you want to keep the etching, personally, I would recommend just cleaning it up with a metal polish like Maas or Flitz.BobH likes this.
