Thread: First Shave Shakes

I've never seen my hand shake that bad. Stropped, lathered up and moved that razor close to my face and had to stop. My wife and I just laughed. Took a deep breath to calm myself and got a few passes done. I was happy with that.
Three shaves later, using both hands and not nearly as nervous. Shaving is no longer a chore but something I look forward to now. Plus how cool is it to shave with one of these? Slow and steady now.

It is cool. The deep breath was a good idea and shows you that when you relax and concentrate, you're in command! Congratulations!

Yup, know exactly what you mean. Was the same way when I started but like you I now actually enjoy the act of shaving using a straight razor. Have fun.

Definitely fun and nothing beats the feel of a good straight shave. Just try not to faceterbate too much or people look at you funny

I do enjoy the varying aspects of shaving old school. I have some very vintage blades that are always nice to shave with and well as the lather making and stropping. It's all good. Glad you are past the shakes and into the relaxing enjoyment.

I remember the shaky days. I also remember the bead of sweat running down from forehead during my first shave.
The shaves get better and even more enjoyable as you get more comfortable with the blade.

I remember shaking a bit too, I'm sure we all did! Now just whip that razor around, funny how you train yourself.

Yep been there, done that.
Now straight razor shaving is like playing golf to me. If I'm not relaxed I duff it and cut myself. But if I'm relaxed, its like that great golf shot. It just feels indescribably wonderful.
To totally relax for 15 min each day is addictive. I can't imagine going back to the DE.

I am less than 10 SR shaves in, but I had a couple early on where I was trying to do some touch up and my hand got shakey. I grabbed a DE on those occasions, but am to the point now where I don't need to, and can finish up with the straight. It's an awesome feeling to get a great shave, and know you did it with a straight.
