Thread: Hi I'm a newbie. And I did a bonehead mistake. please help!

this morning when i was shaving, i accidentally hit my razor on the sick and made a small chip on the blade. I didn't realize until after i was done and stropping my blade.

the blade starting scrapping a line on my strop.

is there any way to fix my blade? how bad is it? please help. Thanks!

More likely than not, there is a way to fix the blade. Good close-up photos of the blade would help.
The blade can be sent out/mailed to one of the restoration members in the classified section & have them inspect it in person.

Send it out for honing is probably your best option. Sorry to hear, is very annoying thing that many have done.

any recommendations on where to send it to? also, what about the strop, is that okay? Its so annoying because I literally just received that strop in the mail. freshly opened and first time used. I'm such an idiot.

Does strop still feel smooth? Lyn at straight razor designs or gssixgun or other forum members in classifieds. If still feels smooth. Maybe just rub some lather in (someone with more experience will chime in soon am sure) I nicked mine quite badly and sanded it out then rubbed lather in and seems absolutely fine again.

I have a strop that looks a lot worse & still works fine.
I won't recommend one member over another, in reference to the restoration; they all do good work.
Find one close to you & send him a PM (Private Message) to discuss the process.

You're not an idiot. We've all had similar 'accidents'. Other posters are correct. Send it to one of the pros to inspect and fix.

I've found, if the scratch/cut is mainly superficial, little has to be done to it. Rub with the palm of your hand and see if that smooths it out some. Daily use of it, with the rubbing should negate the nick.

Any member out in california that provides honing and repairs?
