    Default New experience

Well today has been a something new that I will never forget,as I use a straight razor for the first time, and I was taught by a great friend and excellent mentor (Cudarunner) I want to thank him a lot for introducing me to this old but very amazing art! Showing me step by step and giving me the proper tools, after today my face has never felt as good as this!

    Tvaldez,

It was my pleasure to introduce you to this age old art!

I must give a little background on his adventure. We work together and I'd brought a razor to work and showed it to him and he was instantly interested. Long story made short.

I invited him to the Boars Nest, gave him a nice shaving razor along with a SRP 2" strop that a friend had sent me to give to someone wishing to learn this age old art.

While he was here he did Very Well, I only had him shave the sideburns to chin with the straight and then let him use one of my Gillette DE's to finish up with. I also sent him home with a loaner brush and a couple of 'beginner's soaps to help him get started. I also gave him a 'Practice' Razor/I'd intentional dulled the blade by rounding it so it's impossible to get cut by it so that he can practice stropping, 'shaving'/angles/finding how it all works etc without damaging the gifted strop or his flesh.

Here's a couple of pics of him during his first step down the long strange road to an older but better way of shaving. This one is right after his first pass with the straight and I'd asked him to feel his face and when he did I heard WHOA! That's when I had to get the camera and get a pic!

Here's when he's almost done finishing up using the DE

I'm glad that he took the time to come and learn about this age old art! When he went to leave he held his hand out and when we shook hands he said "Roy, Your The Man". I was very grateful but I failed to say "No, Your the Man for taking this giant step". :

'T' Welcome to the most informative, friendly and helpful site on the web! Remember my door is always open and I'll be here to help as long as I can draw breath!

Tvaldez, welcome to SRP. You couldn't have gotten a better start to straight razor shaving than being mentored by Roy.You are correct when you said to him "You're the man."

Since SRP is one of the few places in this world of ours where the joy of giving is done year round your experience with Roy is one of many happening over the months around the world. With close to 41,000 members worldwide there is someone shaving with a straight most likely every minute of the day and night and someone new to our old world being initiated into the craft/art of shaving almost every day.

    Kudos to you, Roy.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Everything needed to be known about shaving is here but you have it better with access to Roy who can actually show and instruct you. Should cut down learning time dramatically and you wont be guessing if you got it right like most of us at the start as you can just ask. Good luck and happy shaving

Tvaldez, welcome to SRP and straight razor shaving! You have a great mentor indeed. He may be old but he is truly wise. Enjoy the ride!!
Roy, thanks for stepping up to help this young man! With mentors like you the art of wet shaving will surely flourish!!
