    Good to know it's not difficult to replace. Thanks for that. This didn't happen from holding the scales while stropping. I'm a bit OCD about most of my stuff, and I'm fanatical about how I treat this razor. I think it was an overly tight pin that set the stage for my tragedy this morning. Not to discount your attempts to break thousands of these razors in various ways. Your results were just not what I experience.

    I guess at this point you need to order a replacement razor for when your razor is out for service.

    I wondered why anyone would need more than one razor for anything more than collecting. Now I know. I have the Genco from Ebay, but that one may be a loss for anything more than honing practice. I also have a Hornet that I purchased here on the Classifieds. It's not bad, and far better than the Genco, but it's not as good as my Dovo. So although I didn't intend on having a backup razor, I can get by for a few days until this one gets repaired.

    Let me say this, and I hope I'm not being overly dramatic. This community is absolutely the most responsive and helpful of any online community I've ever been involved with. The image of my hobbled Dovo wasn't up for more than a few minutes before this thread was several replies long. Lynn actually contacted me himself to explain what I should do next. I honestly didn't expect that level of attention. Thanks to the lot of ya! -->

    (Incidentally, the scales are just there to protect the edge. One can shave with a razor without scales.)

    Slurryer-

    I had the exact same issue with my Dovo Best 6/8 half-hollow. When I got it I thought "Man, this is the stiffest razor I've felt when opening it". About the third or fourth shave in, the scales broke in exactly the same spot as yours. I contacted the vendor I bought mine from and he said "too bad, it yours now--I wouldn't contact Dovo about it because they won't cover it either". Nice!

    I did contact Dovo about it and although it took a while for a reply they did offer to make good on it. I opted to have Glen/GSSixgun make a new set of scales from micarta and he did a fantastic job. Its a quality material that will last a lifetime and now the razor is back in business.

    Dovo will probably offer to repair it for you--at least give it a try...I'm really glad mine is back in the rotation. Nice of Lynn to chime in about your situation. I wish I had bought mine from him--SRD seems to stand behind their merchandise--at least he didn't tell you "tough luck, you opened the scales too far" like I heard. If I need to pick up another razor, it'll be from SRD.
