Imagine, once you receive your magnification tell us what you see on the bevel and edge.

You have a good set of stones, so we can help you get the bevel set and polish the edge.

First look at the edge and see what we have, then we’ll get you shaving.

It should make a good, step by step honing thread.

In the meantime go to a fabric store and buy a yard of the widest Nylon or Polyester strapping with the finest weave, you can find, (probably 2 inch), it should only cost a couple of dollars.

You will be able to use this as a strop until you learn to strop and later you can paste it and use a proper leather strop.

I really do appreciate your help!

I will definetly post some good pictures from the magnification when I get it. If you want to make a tutorial using the pictures feel free to do so! If it can help someone else out too, that would be awesome.

I'll head out and see if I can get a hold of some strapping tomorrow.

As for actually buying a strop, the only thing I can find in my country is Dovo linen/leather strop or mountain mikes. Are any of thoose a good buy?

Both are good, Mountain Mike makes some well made, good looking strops, as does Dovo, I have vintage Dovo’s and one of their newer, travel strops, it is a great strop.

Either way you can’t go wrong.

I'm here again, eager to start shaving with my blades.

Now done making new scales for one of them and I have all I need, a good strop and a 40x lens.

But before I start shaving I got to hone them. Now, how should I use the lens correctly to make sure I'm okay to move on to next set of stones? What do I want to see and what do I not want to see?
I will try and get some pictures on the way, and compile a little guide based on the tips I recieve. I will post this on the forums.

    Looking forward to get started!

Essentially you will be looking at the scratch pattern. You want it to be even and uniform across the edge. As you go to the next stones you want to see the scratch pattern getting finer and finer at each level and the bevel becoming more polished. First step through will be setting the bevel and there is no point going higher until it's right. Look from the top of the edge and make sure that the bevel meets all the way along the egde. Also check for chips etc by looking from the side. Good luck

First look at the bevels and edge, from the side look for chips, they will have to be completely removed.

Tape the spine and set the bevel on your 1k stone.

The bevels should be flat from heel to toe and meet in a straight edge. All stria (scratches) on the bevels should be even and going in the same direction. Look at the edge straight down on the edge, any shinny spots are where the bevels are not meeting or a chip.

Do not use a lot of pressure, let the stone do the work, if you do, you may encounter chipping down the road, and do not move up in stones until the bevels are completely meeting. If you do, you will fight it all the way and still not have a razor that will shave.

So I started honing today. went 1k,5k,8k,10k and on to stropping.

I tried my best to see how the blade was after each grit.

Ill just post the pics with description and let you give me some feedback.

I had to test it of course, and it gave me a pretty nice shave. Slight irritation, but that might just be technique.

You're making great progress IMAGINE: Do you use an aftershave balm after your shaves. Adding moisture back to your skin will usually resolve the irritation.

Yes I do. I usually wash with warm water then cold, after my face is dry I apply a toner from US major. After the toner I apply a after balm by truefitt and hill and finish up with a moisturizer.
