Thread: Newbie from Pa

Hi guys my names richie I'm 20 I'm from Pa, I recently acquired a wade and butcher I was hoping to learn a little more about it here. I can't really date it but I found the same one sold and it seems to go for a pretty penny on the internet. I'm a collector of all things vintage, advertisement, cars, guns, art and razors and lighters. I run a restoration shop. I normally buy low end ones but this one I found at a yard sale and it's really nice. Help.!

Really nice is an understatement. Looks in excellent condition. People like Phrank will chime in soon. He's the market cornerer on W&B's. What is the width of the blade?

There's a very small chip on the tip of the blade, can be seen under a magnifying glass. But I can't really find any information on the time period it was made. It's approx 5/8ths if an inch

Try doing a search here on the forum for "bow razor" and look at the Butcher Shop I agree with you that the razor is 5/8. Looks to be in good condition. Are you interested in learning to shave with it. If so, you are in the right place.

Im kinda looking into refinishing them rather then shaving. I'm Sicilian and I'm 20 so I don't have much to shave any way hahaha. I might be looking to sell this one and start with a lower end one. I want to learn the processes if rescaling and sharpening.

Welcome. It is a pretty tough go to learn how to sharpen or hone without shaving with them. It is not quite that simple, because after all how well they do or don't shave needs to be established in order for them to be classed as shave ready. Sharp and shave ready are not really one in the same. There are quite a few top notch restorers here and most of them are very sharing with how too information and techniques. If you want to be really good at it I think you will have to learn how to shave. It's a lot of fun and I hope you learn a lot.

Thanks for the info looks like I'll be learning to shave with them! But not this not like I said I'd like to start cheaper

I'd send it out to be honed and use it. Don't know what you paid (I imagine yard sale prices) for it but you all ready have it and it should make for a nice razor. I can't imagine it being any less expensive than yard sale prices,,,
