Yup, that one do you ever wake up with a pen in your hand and plots all over the bedding? Do you have a pie chart pillowcase?

OCD? But it would have been an ad hoc graph, if some had been short and nicked, and getting longer with less nicks, that would have been a good example of technique and time

I'm not sure about the catfish but it is possible with the belly of a spiny dogfish.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Sigh.......Nice Tips, Jimbo! Stropping is KEY! Without thorough stropping, straight shaving is next to impossible.

I am a stropping fiend! You cannot strop too much when stropping correctly.

That's OK guys. A bit of banter is what makes SRP such a great forum.

But yes, stropping is the name of the game. I know some people (unfortunately no longer contributing members here) who claim, and I have no reason to doubt them, that they've kept a razor shave-ready for up to a year or more by simply maintaining a good stropping technique.

Personally I found stropping the hardest aspect of our discipline to master. But the effort you put into learning how to do it properly, at least in my experience, is repaid ten-fold in the end.

    I wholeheartedly agree.
It took me quite some time, and a couple strops to be honest, to get the stropping down.
But as they say, practice makes perfect, and nowadays I find it amazing how much longer you can keep an edge going when stropping correctly

Evidently that must have been true for me too. I kept saying to myself, "What's wrong with this razor that it dulls so quickly?" Then I got another and another and they did the same thing. Finally I realized that the razor was only touching my face and the strop, and since my face doesn't seem so craggy that I could dull a razor in two shaves, it must be my stropping. Low and behold, I watched some videos, bought a quality strop (SRD modular) and things improved immensely. Thanks Jimbo!
