My experience is that after honing or just a touch up on a stone, the razor gets a bit too keen and becomes a bit harsh on my face. It needs a couple of shaves to set the edge back to comfortable. I think that stropping on just plain leather helps a lot. Just try to skip the canvas and strop on leather a lot. I usually do min. 60 rounds both after shaving and then again before the next shaving. Sometimes I strop even more. Just plain leather, applying a light pressure. Try do this for a week and see what happens.

As for prep, try this: take an ordinary bar of soap and before shaving, rub the soap well on your beard, make it wet and then with your hands massage it in and clean your beard very thoroughly. Then wash it clean with warm water. Then apply your lather and massage your face with your brush for a couple of minutes. Then shave. This simple prep works best for me.

Glad to see it is working out for you, great advice here, the only thing I can add is canvas first, leather last, hope this helps.
