Thread: First complete straight shave...

First straight shave, just one pass, luckily no blood drawn, one pass is like four with my old mach3.
Very glad my razor arrived back from classic shavings sharpening service, turn around time was about 20 days. But seems to have been worth the wait, as opposed to me ruining the razor trying to sharpen it without knowing how to properly sharpen it. So far seems like my gambit of $22 on ebay was worth it and got a great shaver.

And you're absolutely right about the unfair comparison to your old shave...my experience with my cartridge razor is the same as yours.

Just a word of warning from a fellow bald dude who sports a natural sweater, once you start having weekend hone parties, you'll run out of arm hair after the first couple razors and end up looking something like this, I always do:

For your type of shaving you might need a 7/16 " or a 1/4" blade straight razor.Filarmonica from spain makes a terrific 7/16 or 1/4 " blade .

Thanks guys for the welcome! I was quite excited to use it for the first time, it is gonna take some practice for sure. I was also very surprised at how it is almost relaxing/meditative(?). It turned a chore into a more of a pleasure, with less irritation too. Alum block hardly stung which i found surprising as well especially in the more difficult areas of jaw line and adams apple far less irritation. Believe i'm hooked.

The razor i have is a 5/8 blade, looking into possibly getting another razor or two down the road. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm glad the experience was positive. Now the fun begins as you learn how to keep that edge sharp. The next thing you know you'll be buying hones. And then you start trying new soaps, creams, aftershaves, beard prep, etc. And *then* you start thinking maybe you want to try a 6/8 or a full hollow ground or a near wedge. Tons of fun!
