Default One month in Here's what I learned

Hello all. So, I received a Dove 5/8 Astrada for Christmas and have about 9 shaves under my strop. I stopped trying to get that perfect BBC smooth shave for now. It helped with razor burn and actually let me enjoy a smooth comfortable shave that I can enjoy all day with wiffs of awesome sandlewood from my aftershave until 1100 am followed by an afternoon of spectacular aroma of almond from my soap. When I returned home my wife hugged me kissed me and took in a deep breath on my cheek and commented on how wonderful I smelled! That was a pinnacle moment that I've never experienced from any previous shave. The moral of this story is that there are so many wonderful facets of shaving with a Straight razor, don't obsess on getting the closest shave that one can possibly get, but to stop and smell the rosewater!

It sure is a journey and I'm glad your enjoying it. I never thought about shaving as much as I currently do, however I mostly get close and comfortable shaves and enjoy the aftershave scents even if Im sat in the house by myself.
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

Now that is a really nice shave story. You're a lucky man.

Just so you know - my wife doesn't comment as often as she once did (come to think on it, she "doesn't buy me flowers anymore."). But every now and then, she'll walk up to me and after a hug or close encounter say, "I love the scent on that one." It always makes me feel good when she does lol.

The scents were, and still are a huge part of the enjoyment of wet shaving for me.

Oh and good call on not rushing the BBS shaves. That's huge. Trying to get close shaves sees me actually gripping my straight more than I should... which of course equals burn.

I used to hate shaving every day when I was in uniform. After I took up wet shaving I have come to relish it and have missed maybe 4 daily shaves. It's an addiction, welcome to the party and enjoy the journey!

I have been addicted for about 3 weeks now. Interesting how much I enjoy shaving more than I used to, I work 4 10 hour shifts so I even shave on my second day off - unheard of before I went straight.
