Thread: Hot lather shaving cream machine

Hello. Anyone ever use one of these with a straight razor ?

I don't. Are you proposing to use it to dispense warm lather onto your brush and then apply it to your face?

That was my thought. I was thinking that it might work well.

I have never usted one but i guess that if i did i wouldnt need to use a brush am I right? Just my hands because the purpose for the brush is to help make the lather faster and easier and since it is already done then there is no need for it, just my thought

I use one in my barber shop, you just apply by hand. Not really practical for home use as most like to dry out unless you turn them off/unplug them. Different brands produce different heat from my experience, campbells seems hottest to me if you want a modern one but the old vintage chrome ones are still my favorite ( ive owned 4 different brands)

Yes, they're awesome! And a skuttle is the same concept except for use with building a lather which is more my style

I don't have one, but my barber uses one to trim up the neck line. It is pretty nice!

My barber does too, and I love it. I have to admit, it would be a neat convenience, but I like the bowl and soap too. I just rarely soak/heat the bowl, so the lather is luke warm by the time it gets to my face. One day I'll get a scuttle.

The old latherking machines were designed for use in a barbershop where it's used on and off all day. Some guys have used them and most have found them impractical for home use. Also the lather they produce doesn't come close to what you can make with a brush. They are designed to use the mix made for the machine and it ain't up there in quality.

Thank you to all that have responded. Father in law has a con air brand that heats up a can of shaving cream. I guess it's free so I'll give it a try but also also prefer the soap and brush method. Thanks again for all the responses.
